Of Counsel

Sharon Smoot

Sharon was born and raised in Los Angeles, California. She attended UCLA, where she earned a B.A. in English in 1989.

Sharon graduated from the University of Cincinnati College of Law in 1993. During law school, she was an active member of the Black Law Students Association and tutored underprivileged middle school students in her spare time. Upon graduation, she relocated to Atlanta to begin her legal career.

While waiting for her bar results, Sharon worked at a real estate closing firm in Roswell, where she developed an interest in real estate law. After passing the bar, she joined the Small Business Administration’s Disaster Assistance Office. In 1997, she started her own practice, working as a solo practitioner for over a decade. She specialized in residential real estate closings, real estate litigation, family law, and bankruptcy law.

In 2006, she obtained her real estate license, and in 2009, she transitioned to selling real estate full-time. Several years later, Sharon became her mother’s caregiver after back surgery left her unable to walk.

After caring for her mother for 10.5 years, Sharon began contemplating a return to the practice of law. In the summer of 2024, she sought a position with Ganek. She joined Ganek as a Senior Attorney in February 2025, focusing primarily on residential real estate closings. Her background as both a residential real estate attorney and a Realtor enables her to offer a unique and valuable perspective to buyers, sellers, and their real estate agents.

When she isn’t working, Sharon enjoys baking, traveling, and pursuing creative endeavors, including writing and designing t-shirts and mugs. She is a lifelong dog lover and currently has one dog, a Great Pyrenees-Border Collie mix named Ana.
